DD-WRT branched off Sveasoft's work once they began to start charging for their firmware, releasing its first version in early 2005. Part of the name of that initial router, the WRT (Wireless Receiver/Transmitter) was merged with DD, the German automobile license plate code for Dresden, home of the project's founder BrainSlayer.

Does DD-WRT have CTF support now and if I were to flash this firmware, how would it affect my performance speeds? I would love to try DD-WRT and Merlin but the only thing straying me away from DD-WRT is the lack of CTF support. Tomato is at the bottom of the list, not fond of the basic gui. thanks.

In fact, manufacturers such as D-Link, TP-Link, and more are available with DD-WRT. Better yet, if you’re interested in wireless repeater modes, DD-WRT has it all over Tomato. Asus encourages and supports this use and advertises several routers as particularly suitable for DD-WRT including especially the RT-N16 gigabit router. See details on compatibility below. The RT-N13U/B, RT-N12, RT-N10+, WL-520GU and WL-520GC are also advertised as DD-WRT compatible though do not ship with this operating system.
