Jun 28, 2011 · We've all been asking for IPSEC support in Untangle, as many of us use pfSense in conjunction with it to fill that void. Welp, that won't change now. This is a big FU from Untangle. IPSEC is free (or included in the initial cost) in most firewalls, Linux or otherwise. Not a friggin monthly fee. /rant off Untangle NGFW; NGFW-13194; Wireguard and Ipsec tunnel management issues I could be completely talking out of my ass here, but I thought an IPSec vpn allows better 'transparency' when using a site to site vpn and would allow for things like I've described. I've also heard pfsense runs much leaner on resources and without as much overhead. I just setup L2TP/IPsec VPN on my notebook connecting to an Untangle server. It turned out to be related to how IPSEC VPN works on iOS (apple) devices. On iOS devices, on turning the ipsec VPN ON, rule is added automatically in route table to send the IPSEC server/peer traffic directly to gateway to avoid looping (packet getting encrypted again) and rest of the traffic are sent to ipsec tunnel first to get encrypted and then onto ipsec server.

With the IPSec NAT-T support in the Microsoft L2TP/IPSec VPN client, IPSec sessions can go through a NAT when the VPN server also supports IPSec NAT-T. IPSec NAT-T is supported by Windows Server 2003. IPSec NAT-T is also supported by Windows 2000 Server with the L2TP/IPSec NAT-T update for Windows XP and for Windows 2000.
